“I’m not sure what I expected,” Kari said. “He’s very reserved.”
“He looks amazingly like Mom did,” Dani observed. “But he’s much quieter.”
They had finally met their long-lost half-brother the day before and were trying to organize their thoughts.
“Do you think he’ll want to be friends?” Kari asked.
“It’s hard to say. We don’t seem to have a lot in common.” Dani grinned. “Unless you want to join his bowling league.”
Kari sighed. “I thought this was going to be easier. Some kind of instant rapport. After all, we’re family.”
“Family stuff is never as easy as we think it should be.”
“And it was really hard on Dad,” Kari said. “I wish we hadn’t invited him.”
“That was your idea, not mine,” Dani said sharply.
Kari’s eyes filled with tears. “Oh Dani, let’s not fight.”
Dani reached for her. “It’s gonna be okay, little sister.”
