The Presentation

Why had she let herself get roped into doing this? Katie fought down the nausea, picked up her notes, and headed to the conference room. It was crowded with Committee and audience. The consultant was winding up his presentation. The Committee voted, and then Mark, her Executive Director, announced her presentation.

Oh God, what had she gotten herself into? She took a deep breath and moved forward. “Good morning,” she said, and lifted her head to face them. On the far side of the room, a County Commissioner flashed a smile at her and she grinned back at him. Her shoulders relaxed. “As Mark said, I’m going to give you an overview of the service data we’ve been collecting,” she began. Fifteen minutes later it was over and Mark was giving her a thumbs up.

“Good job,” he told her that afternoon. “I thought you said you were nervous.”
