Broken Trust

“But what he did was wrong!”

“He knows that.”

“He sure doesn’t act like he does. He hasn’t apologized.”

“He can’t. He doesn’t know how.”

“Or he doesn’t think stealing is a problem.”

“He paid you back.”

“Only because you made him.”

Her mother sighed. “I don’t know, Sandi. There’s only so much I can do. You’re both old enough to act like adults. You’re going to have to work it out. I wish you could find it in your heart to forgive him.”

“And let him get away with it? He took everything I’d saved for that car!”

“And paid you back.”

“Only because he was caught. Why should I forgive him? And what will he do next?”

“But he’s still your brother.”

“But how can I forgive someone I can’t trust?”

Her mother raised her hands helplessly.
